Since stepping into the role of President of the West Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Myhriah Young has spent her first weeks doing what she does best: building relationships, listening to the community, and creating connections that help businesses thrive.

Rather than starting with assumptions about what local businesses need, Myhriah has spent her time meeting business owners, community leaders, nonprofit organizations, residents, and professionals throughout the area to better understand their challenges, opportunities, and goals.

One of the first initiatives launched under her leadership is a new Round Table Series designed to bring people together for meaningful conversations within their industries and communities. These discussions create space for participants to share ideas, discuss common challenges, identify opportunities, and build relationships with others who understand their unique experiences. “These conversations have been pure GOLD,” said Young, when discussing the benefits of these gatherings.

The response has been immediate and encouraging. Initial Round Tables for Women’s Community Leaders, Pet Industry Professionals, and Community Voices filled quickly, demonstrating that people are hungry for authentic conversations, collaboration, and connection.

Beyond organized events, Myhriah has spent considerable time getting to know businesses on a personal level. Whether visiting local companies, attending community gatherings, supporting events, or simply sitting down for conversations, her goal is to understand not just what businesses do, but who they are, what they care about, and where they want to grow.

A major focus moving forward will be helping businesses gain greater visibility and discover new opportunities for growth. This includes creating strategic introductions, encouraging collaborations, highlighting local businesses, developing educational opportunities, and helping business owners connect with resources that support long-term success.

As she begins this new chapter, Myhriah has also made mentorship a priority. She has spent time meeting with the Chamber’s previous president, as well as several other Chamber presidents and leaders throughout the region, learning from their experiences and gaining insight into the most important aspects of the role.

She believes that while innovation is important, there is also tremendous value in learning from those who have spent years serving their communities through Chamber work. “It takes a village to support a business,” says Young. “Whether a business is brand new or has been serving the community for decades, there is value in helping one another succeed. I believe our future will require both traditional wisdom and new ideas. Some of the best opportunities happen when we bring experience and innovation together around the same table.”

That mindset of listening and learning extends beyond Chamber leadership and into the broader business community.

While there is still much work ahead, the early momentum has been exciting. New conversations are being started, new partnerships are forming, and new opportunities are beginning to emerge throughout West Jordan.

For Myhriah, the mission is clear:

Creating conversations, connections, and collaborations that help businesses and communities thrive.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Myhriah yet, she would love to hear your story. Whether you’re a business owner, community leader, nonprofit organization, resident, or someone who simply wants to be more involved in the community, she welcomes the opportunity to connect, learn about your goals, and explore ways the Chamber can support your success.

The future of a community is built through relationships, and this is just the beginning.
